The 800GBASE-DR8 OSFP LPO (Linear-drive Pluggable Optics) optical transceiver module is designed for 800GBASE Ethernet throughput up to 500m link lengths over OS2 single-mode fiber (SMF) using a wavelength of 1310nm via dual MTP/MPO-12 APC connectors. This transceiver is compliant with CMIS 5.0, LPO MSA 1.0, and OSFP MSA standards. The built-in digital diagnostics monitoring (DDM) allows access to real-time operating parameters.
LPO transceivers eliminate traditional DSP/CDR ASICs by adopting a linear architecture with TX-side linear drivers and RX-side TIAs, reducing power consumption and latency with a streamlined signal path. They can withstand the maximum range of external operating conditions, including temperature, humidity, and EMI.
While keeping the pluggable design for flexible cabling and maintenance, they utilize a silicon photonics PIC for compact, high-speed, ultra-reliable connectivity. The 800G LPO transceivers deliver excellent performance in AI/ML systems and 800G switches that support linear-drive optics.
Note: "Finned-top" transceivers are now called "Integrated HeatSink" (IHS) as the cooling fins are integrated into the OSFP connector metal top. Commonly used in air-cooled switches. "Flat-top" transceivers are now called "Riding Heat Sink" (RHS) as the cooling fins ride on top of the network card or systems internal cages. This is used for both air-cooled and liquid-cooled applications for DGX, ConnectX-7, and BlueField-3 DPUS.
